DESCRIPTION: 
The Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission, Department of 
Parks, Montgomery County is seeking to fill a part-time career position 
coordinating a large volunteer program focused on the management of 
non-native invasive plants on County Parkland. Under supervision of the 
Department's Forest Ecologist, the incumbent will coordinate, plan and 
administer large-scale, volunteer projects to remove non-native invasive 
plants and replant and maintain native species. The selected candidate 
will work with an established group of 400 active, trained volunteers, as 
well as with local community groups, and other organizations. The 
incumbent will provide technical resource management training on 
non-native invasive plant management for volunteers and volunteer 
supervisors. The selected candidate will maintain detailed records and 
write a quarterly volunteer newsletter.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge of non-native plant identification and management;
- Good knowledge of Maryland piedmont flora and ecology;
- Excellent people skills;
- Experience working with, coordinating and supervising volunteers;
- Excellent writing, organizational, word processing and computer skills.
The M-NCPPC Department of Parks, Montgomery County, Maryland promotes 
conservation and stewardship of natural resources, in balance with 
additional responsibilities and recreational objectives, across its 
approximately 36,000 acres of parkland.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
1. Bachelor’s Degree in natural resource management, environmental 
science, forestry, wildlife management, or related field; and

2. Three years of progressively responsible experience; or

3. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

4. Valid driver’s license or the ability to acquire one. 

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: 
This is a part time position working approximately 32 hours per week. 

This position will require some weekend and evening work (minimum of one 
weekend day per month).

This position will require the occasional application of herbicides 
(training and registration to be provided).
