What does the samara look like. Leaves look like sugar to me.

Subject: [MAIPC] Maple in Question

Hi,
I would love confirmation on what species of maple I am seeing aggressively invading a natural area in Reston. It doesn’t appear to have the milky sap that Norway maples are supposed to when a stem is broken. If it is a sugar maple, has anyone else seen sugar maples take over a natural area, completely? I read that aggressive sugar maples are taking over the Missouri and Mississippi river banks so I’m wondering if that’s what’s going on here.

Thank you,
Patricia
