The stand at this location may be entirely dead by now.

The ambrosia beetle in the attached article moves into compromised trees. I have yet to see signs of it in healthy trees. An easy experiment to prove this is to use Drill and Fill early in the growing season on several Ailanthus trees. Then observe. I have seen this insect numerous times, including at our home, after using Drill and Fill, never before. Most likely it is Aculops ailanthii and Atteva aurea spreading the diseases from diseased to healthy trees starting in late June and continuing to leaf drop. A tree infected in September may not show disease symptoms until the following year, even though the disease is incubating in it over the winter.

                                                                                                                                                                 Tom Gardner

Evidently the biocontrol for Ailanthus, tested to
be effective and host specific in PA, is now in MD and can
be used over the state of Maryland. Who can contact Tom
 Gardner and check out his
  site in MD? Cheers

We are looking for it south of PA in
Maryland to legally transfer it in MD. We are asking folks
to look for it in MD. Opinions anyone? Marc

 Hi Marc,
Just saw the attached article and
thought of the presentation you gave for PTRC last winter.
Are you familiar with this research? There is quite a bit of
Ailanthus in our watershed and I am wondering whether
it would be possible for us to put a program together for
giving this fungus a try. Thans --
