Hi, All.

Our website has a bulletin describing herbicide treatment of Microstegium at

https://plantscience.psu.edu/research/labs/weed-ecology/research/wildland-weed-management/publications/invasive-species-quicksheets/stiltgrass <https://plantscience.psu.edu/research/labs/weed-ecology/research/wildland-weed-management/publications/invasive-species-quicksheets/stiltgrass>

A brief summary of grass-specific herbicides, listing herbicide common name, and example trade names. These are products with non-crop labeling.

quizalofop-P-ethyl	“Assure II” My preferred material.

sethoxydim	“Segment” (“Poast” may be the most familiar product)

clethodim “Envoy Plus”

fluazifop-P-butyl	“Fusilade II”

fenoxaprop-P-ethyl	“Acclaim Extra”	labeled for use in certain turfgrass species as well.

Be well.

> Mowing is tough because it often isn’t low enough to catch all/most of the CL seeds, which can be produced low to the ground. More effective is string trimming very close to the ground, but of course then you hammer the native species. Even better is a grass-specific herbicide, which can exclude Mv and allow most native species to return. If mowing is the only option, mowing year after year after about Aug 15 or once flowering starts, can be helpful in reducing seed production and spread. CL seeds ripen later than CH seeds, usually in mid to late October in the PA latitude.
