MARYLAND WEED RISK ASSESSMENT TRAINING

SAVE THE DATES!

Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) and USDA Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) will offer a weed risk assessment training. This free training consists of a series of webinars and a two-day hands-on workshop. Participants will be trained to use the USDA Weed Risk Assessment tool and to complete a formal WRA.

The training opportunity is open to anyone; Maryland participants will be expected to complete at least one WRA during the year following the training to support the work of the state’s Invasive Plant Advisory Committee (for more information, see

https://mda.maryland.gov/plants-pests/Pages/maryland_invasive_plants_prevention_and_control.aspx

Three 2-hour interactive webinars will be live broadcast, one each on January 29, February 5, and February 12 from 2-4 pm. These webinars are prerequisites for attending the two-day workshop, which will be held all day March 5-6 at MDA headquarters in Annapolis.

WHY COME? Learn how to use a science-based, objective method for determining the risk of invasive plants, which can then be used to apply ranking or priority targets for preventing introduction or management activities.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Land managers, regulators, members of Invasive Plant Councils, citizen coalition members, independent consultants.

If you have questions, contact Kerrie Kyde (Maryland DNR retired) at terraclara at comcast.net<mailto:terraclara at comcast.net> Registration information will be available shortly.
