2018 was a wet year laden with leaf loss. I am not sure I would want to quantify this beech disease in those conditions but it would be good to set up proper monitoring and who to send samples too...

Can people please weigh in on the threat from beech leaf disease in the Mid-Atlantic? It's being reported in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Ontario, and I'd like to learn more from experts on the ground.
Here's an article in the Scientist:https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/a-mysterious-disease-is-killing-beech-trees-65358?utm_campaign=TS_DAILY%20NEWSLETTER_2019&utm_source=hs_email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=69228355&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-9g5owvWwy8o2iUhZxj5GU7i8hZjaiMxbUm_f7cJqL3eOmy4-fR_eaUHJvYWWgUnZQ9StdE7bAoGa0wYdaxl5VQs7D7eg&_hsmi=69228355.
The disease appears to be spreading rapidly since it was first reported in 2012. See 2016 and 2017 PA map on page 7 of this PDF:file:///C:/Users/Judith%20Fulton/Documents/Word%20Files%20-%20Personal/Garden,%20Landscaping,%20Plants,%20Master%20Gardener/Invasives/PA_FHH_2017%20Beech%20Leaf%20Disease.pdf.
For comparison, look at the larger PA 2018 area in this article:https://news.osu.edu/beech-trees-are-dying-and-nobodys-sure-why/. Both this and the Scientist article reference Forest Pathology journal article https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/efp.12488).
Thanks,
Judy
