Giant Salvinia has been reported in Virginia. If it becomes invasive we do have a weevil biocontrol. https://www.lsuagcenter.com/topics/environment/invasive%20species/giant%20salvinia/biocontrol%20program
Introducing a weevilThe salvinia weevil, Cyrtobagous salviniae, is a tiny black beetle from Brazil that specializes on salvinia species. The weevil has been used successfully to combat giant salvinia infestations since as early as 1980 in Queensland, Australia. The first weevils were brought to the United States 2001.

Dear researchers and research supporters,
We advocate more research for host specific, effective, biological controls of non-native invasive plants in our region. Current ongoing research projects include Chinese Privet, Japanese Stiltgrass, Common Reed, Hydrilla, Oxeye Daisy, Common Tansy, Field Bindweed, Giant Reed, Giant Salvinia, Beefsteak Plant, Small Carpet Grass, Russian Olive, Russian Thistle, Scotch Broom, Water Hyacinth, wavyleaf Basketgrass, Yellow Starthistle, and Fig Buttercup. Federal and State agencies, researchers, and Universities conducting this research are listed in North American Weed Classical Biological Control Research and Development Program Directory and Contacts Version 1, February 13, 2018. <https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbugwoodcloud.org%2Fibiocontrol%2Fpublications%2FWeed_Classical_Bio_Ctrl_Directory_Contacts-2-13-28.pdf&data=02%7C01%7Crdiaz%40agcenter.lsu.edu%7C458ee247124f4f90d76308d765ed8b9f%7C804b509899084bdf9c06b3df777563aa%7C0%7C1%7C637089943255219182&sdata=3PpVlIqqaj2xufG1pUDxsZ92d2IIdLD7I%2BkonBOx%2Brs%3D&reserved=0> https://bugwoodcloud.org/ibiocontrol/publications/Weed_Classical_Bio_Ctrl_Directory_Contacts-2-13-28.pdf. as well as Q-Bank, 2013 and https://www.ncagr.gov/PLANTINDUSTRY/Plant/bioctrl/index.htm <https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncagr.gov%2FPLANTINDUSTRY%2FPlant%2Fbioctrl%2Findex.htm&data=02%7C01%7Crdiaz%40agcenter.lsu.edu%7C458ee247124f4f90d76308d765ed8b9f%7C804b509899084bdf9c06b3df777563aa%7C0%7C1%7C637089943255229183&sdata=RqnnLm%2F%2BhGR0oGw8Wy13pkfOSnkOtQ5EILCrX%2FeUnaw%3D&reserved=0> .

We request that you provide additional support to these researchers to find safe and effective biological controls for these non-native invasive species. This way to save our native ecosystem from non-native invasive species is beyond cut, pull and spray.
