Does anyone have an update on how much invasive species removal increases
carbon sequestration and reverses climate change?

Hi Chris,
My comments today on replacing lawns with native meadows to accomplish 30 x
30. Can we find out statistically how this compares to forests in reducing
climate change?
Marc
It is not just forests. Native plant meadows are natural places in
Maryland. Maryland as originally about 80% forest and 20 % open space
Properly maintained meadows, as well as forests, is another way to reduce
climate change. A great local example is several acres at Port Tobacco River
Park, maintained by Southern Maryland Audubon Society, Port Tobacco River
Conservancy, and Charles County (and myself leading the charge to remove the
few invasives ).
NIH has converted much of their lawn to properly maintained meadows. As I
drive around I see that many agencies are doing this now. It saves them a
lot of $ to mow just once a year. Send the cows back to Asia and bring back
the buffalo which mow at a height of one foot and the native plants are so
happy, Indian grass, switch gras, bluestem and Joe-pye weed.
