To MAIPC,

The vine in Eugene Groshong's email of Sep 21, 2020 is Fallopia scandens. It is positively identified by the relatively large fruits with prominent wings that have undulate margins and attenuate bases down the stalk.

The species is indigenous to North America from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, west to the Great Plains, south to Texas and Florida. The flowers provide nectar to numerous Bees, Flies and Wasps. The foliage are eaten by Beetles and Moth larvae and the seeds are eaten by Birds and Mammals.

It can be aggressive in sunny, disturbed sites, but will recede as the habitat stabilizes, hopefully dominated by native perennials, shrubs and trees.

Best wishes,

Daniel

Nora,

Can't figure out what this vine is. It seems as prolific as mile-a-minute vine, but has heart shaped leaves and no stickers.
