OK, MAIPCers, Let's make this a regional effort! Let's all get reporting
the species that we can id during the winter. We gotta have ways to get
through winter!

Dear Fellow EDDMapS Verifiers,

I understand you are a Virginia EDDMapS Verifier for plants and am reaching
out this morning to ask for your assistance in clearing a backlog of
EDDMapS records for Virginia.

Over the past six months, Blue Ridge PRISM, EDDMapS (Rebekah Wallace),
Virginia Master Naturalists (Susan McLaughlin) (VMN), and DCR's Natural
Heritage (Kevin Heffernan) have partnered to train interested VMNs in
reporting invasive plants using EDDMapS. This joint effort has been
generating a lot of new reports (since July 2021) for Virginia resulting in
a bit of a backlog. To keep these volunteers engaged, they need timely
verification and feedback. We want them to keep reporting and you can help
make this happen.

*How can I help?*

   - Reviewing just five records submitted since July 1, 2021 would be a
huge help. It's okay to pick easy ones, but if you can tackle a mystery
plant, a plant that is tough to ID, or an incorrect ID, even better.
   - Some of you review records for just a few counties. Would you consider
adding more counties or becoming a statewide verifier?
   - Do you know someone else interested in becoming a verifier? Please
connect them with me and I'll take it from there.
   - Do you know the following individuals: Wendy Cass, Rod Simmons, Rachel
Habig-Meyers, Ron Circe, Patrick O'Brien, or Meghan Fellows? They are also
listed as Virginia plant verifiers, but I do not know how to reach them. If
so, would you please forward this email to them or put them in touch with
   me.

*When I review reports, how can I be most effective?*

   - Review reports submitted since July 1, 2021, but feel free to go back
further. There are a lot of reports prior to the VMN project!
   - Prioritize all reports on the "Top 20 Invasive Plants List in the
Trade We Want to Know More About" (list below)
   - Help sort through and bulk verify iNaturalist reports

*It's been awhile since I worked in EDDMapS and I might need a refresher.
Are there resources? *

contribute to this effort in supporting the work of VMNs and other citizen
scientists across Virginia. Please let me know if you have questions or if
there is anything I can do to help.

Many thanks,
Beth Mizell
