Invasive, nonnative grasses seem ubiquitous these days, and increasingly
populate both private and public green spaces. Often unnoticed by
landowners until the infestation is widespread, nonnative grasses can
overwhelm lawns and crowd out native plant populations. This poses a threat
not only to your front yard but also to forests and the ecosystem.
Because its spread can be overwhelming and annoyingly persistent, managing
invasive grasses may seem like a daunting task. Blue Ridge PRISM can help
you understand how to take control of your lawn again, and help protect our
native plants and forests.
Blue Ridge PRISM's *Managing Invasive Grasses Webinar on Wednesday, July
21st* will enable you to confidently identify and manage invasive grasses
that are best controlled during the summer months. During this FREE virtual
event, our panel of professional will discuss identification and best
practices to control invasive warm season grasses such as Johnsongrass,
Wavyleaf Grass, Japanese stiltgrass, and more. There will also be a Q & A
session with the audience.
Topics covered in this event will include:
· identification
· ecological impacts of invasive grasses
· grass specific herbicides
· timing of control for specific species
· native grasses and restoration
· strategies for long-term management and control
· managing invasive grasses around water/wetlands
· managing grasses in pastures and agricultural lands
· specific treatment techniques -spot spraying, foliar, mowing,
burning
