One of the greatest threats to native plantings is invasive plants like Callary pear, English ivy, oriental bittersweet, barberry and so on. Without dedicated removal and maintenance, planting success is limited at best. Over population of deer play a big role, too.

> Thank you very much for this, Nathan. I want you all to know that we have a lot going on right here. Chesapeake Wild Ones helps and encourages gardeners who want to go native and has a sub group that is looking into encouraging MDOT and other transportation units to plant native plants on roadsides. There is also a group called Rewild Montgomery that aims to increase awareness of the essential value of native plants and provide education and resources to help people envision and implement native species plantings. Chesapeake Natives is hosting a streaming of Hometown Habitat this weekend. There may be a few places left, so contact me if you are interested. It?s free.

>>
>> You don?t need a lot of space to create a big buzz with pollinators and other wildlife. Whether you have a small yard, or just want to convert a portion of a larger space, a Postage Stamp Prairie is the answer. Also known as Pocket Prairies, these small plantings have the ability to recreate the Maritime Grassland plant communities that once dominated large portions of Long Island, providing you with an attractive, biodiverse garden filled with color and life.

>> Anthony Marinello, a permaculture & rewilding expert, presents this session for new and experienced rewilders alike. Anthony founded Dropseed Native Landscapes to give Long Islanders the ability to transform their piece of the Island into a native plant oasis to sustain both humans and wildlife alike.
