Goats...seems like a lot of trouble and $ for minimal results. Goats and grazing, like any IPM mechanical control has it's purposes and place depending on the circumstance but they are hardly the over-hyped silver bullet the mainstream focuses and fixates. At worst, goats are sometimes entrepreneur-driven virtue-signaling at the expense of more productive methods. In an ideal world ALL invasive control projects have input from a variety of expertise sources to develop an integrated plan. Unfortunately, this seldom occurs and results of contracted human Specialist/volunteer/financial resources can be marginal at best.

It is not likely to work well but it is worth the try since stilt grass is so bad.  If they do eat the stilt grass we can come back for 3 years and see if the seed bank has been reduced from 5 to 4 years. Marc

Subject: J stiltgrass seeds passing thru goats guts??

Hi All,

Just got a request from a colleague who is going to have goats take care of their J stiltgrass next week, here in the Charlottesville area.

 I have 2 questions:

1.   do goats actually eat stiltgrass?!

2. will the seeds pass through the goats' GI tract intact (pre-fertilized!) and ready for next year?

Thank you all!

Stay safe.
