Does anyone know if someone has looked at tree growth after removal of a
heavy infestation of invasive vines? I am especially interested in canopy
trees that are either mature or almost mature in size, but have had a heavy
infestation of vines which may have slowed development or caused a decline
in health. Do we know if the tree rebounds and is there an increase in
growth during the rebound time period?

Interesting question Heidi.  If someone is currently doing research
hopefully they'll respond to the list.  I did a quick search on Google
Scholar for tree growth and vine removal, but you may need to search for
specific vines and trees.

One study that looked at oriental bittersweet and tulip trees that found no
effect on growth (

Dennis Whigham did a series of studies measuring sweet gum growth following
above vs. below ground control (root competition) of Japanese honeysuckle
and Virginia creeper early in his career that found that below ground
competition was more important than above ground,
