Hi,

Please see Erik's email below and contact him if you think you have some
records or data he may be interested in. I don't know what his deadline is.

Thanks,

Jil

Subject: Last call for bird nests in knotweed!
To: Erik Kiviat <kiviat at bard.edu>

Good morning and Happy New Year!

I'm analyzing data and writing a paper on bird nests in and under
knotweed (*Polygonum
cuspidatum [Reynoutria japonica], Polygonum sachalinense [Reynoutria
sachalinensis], *and hybrids) in North America, with also records from
Eurasia. The attached map shows states and provinces where knotweed has
been reported and those states from which I have nest records.

I am especially interested in nest records, including nests not identified
to species, from states and provinces not shown in red on the map (and from
North America north of 58 degrees N. lat. = Juneau AK). And, especially,
any species *other than* gray catbird, northern cardinal, American robin,
red-winged blackbird.

Also still interested in records from Eurasia and, if possible, New
Zealand.

Photo documentation is very helpful.

The purpose of the paper I'm writing is general natural history,
documenting the geographic and taxonomic extent of nesting in knotweed, and
recommending that site-specific knotweed management be performed outside
breeding season to the extent feasible.

Thanks so much for keeping your eyes open to leafless knotweed in which
nests are easily spotted!

All best,
Erik
