Each sale is a fundraiser for a local non-profit. Sunday, September 25, we will hold a fundraiser for Patapsco Heritage Greenway. </span><o:p></o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:13.5pt'>The Patapsco River was affected by the Ellicott City flood on July 30, and is about to be affected by the removal of the Bloede Dam. After the area around the dam is clear-cut, pipes buried, and trails re-built, the land will be re-vegetated with native plants.</span><o:p></o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:13.5pt'>I can't imagine that there are really enough trees, shrubs, and ground cover in stock at native plant wholesalers to repair all the damage. Or enough money to buy them. As with most disturbed land, I suspect that invasive non-native plants will be first to move in and last to leave.</span><o:p></o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:13.5pt'>If all of us grew native plants -- on our property or in a community garden -- we would each make a tiny contribution toward supporting the ecosystem and controlling stormwater. And we would soon have plenty of plants to donate to revegetation projects or even to sell in future fundraisers...to others who would also make a tiny contribution and soon have plenty of extra plants, too.</span><o:p></o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:13.5pt'>If stiltgrass can try to take over the world, why can't we? </span><o:p></o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:13.5pt'>Please come out on Sunday to buy a native plant if you need one, talk to customers about native plants if you already have enough of them, or donate a plant if you have too many. </span><o:p></o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:13.5pt'>Remember, if you live in Howard County, money is available to reimburse some of the expense of putting in stormwater remediation.
