(I did not have the garden planted.) I had planted two lesser celandine plants there in early spring for observation. Apparently I spread seeds from them over about a 12 ft. circle using the string trimmer.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;color:black'>Now for initial control and prevention of seed formation, I have decided to use </span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;color:#1F497D'>a </span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;color:black'>very sharp hoe to cut off the tops of lesser celandine rather than doing this with a string trimmer. Hoeing out the tubers is not practical and may facilitate their washing downstream. I am using a hoe just to cut off the tops of plants right now before seeds or bulbils form to slow down the plants because they are already flowering (and were two weeks ago). <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;color:black'>Cutting under the tubers with a very sharp paring knife and bagging is in my experience the best non-herbicidal method of control, but this cannot be done on large-scale infestations.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt;color:black'>John Ambler<o:p></o:p></span></p></div></body></html>
