Hello all,
<div><br>
</div>
<div>A few years ago, Vanessa Beauchamp and I sent out a request for tissue and/or seed collections from invasive wavyleaf populations throughout its known range. Many thanks to those who were able to send samples then! </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>We are looking to further expand our collections, to conduct a population genetics project to understand the mechanisms and routes of spread across the landscape. Both Vanessa and I will be continuing our own sampling into this fall, but can greatly
use your help. If you encounter wavyleaf from your local area, we’re asking that you collect some seed and/or leaf tissue (depending on its life stage) and send it to us, along with locality information.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><b>For either type of sample:</b></div>
<div>Record a GPS point or include a map with an approximate location. An estimate of the patch size is also useful.</div>
<div>If you are able, collecting from multiple individual plants per location would be very helpful. In this case, please package tissue from each plant separately. In these larger patches, aim for collections from plants at least 1m apart.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><b>For leaf samples:</b></div>
<div>Leaf tissue will be best preserved for DNA analysis if it is sent on silica drying crystals (either available at your local craft store, or in those “do not eat” desiccant inserts found in shoes, vitamins, etc). Place approx. 1 tablespoon silica
gel in a ziplock bag, then add at least 3-4 leaves from a single plant (try to collect all the tissue from a single stem, traced down to the root).</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><b>For seed samples:</b></div>
<div>Again, simply pinch or take a pair of scissors, chop off a handful or two of inflorescences from a given plant, and stick them in a paper bag or envelope. Please then double-bag them in sealed zip-top plastic bags.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div><b>Address to send wavyleaf seeds or tissue:</b><br>
