<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I am Sarah Archer, one of your Virginia representatives on the MAIPC Board. I currently work with Arlington County’s Parks and Natural Resources Division, coordinating the Invasive Plant Program. I am from Illinois originally, where I
had my first introduction to invasive plants pulling garlic mustard with my Girl Scout troop in elementary school.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">My first job in the field of conservation was and internship with the Student Conservation Association in 2007. In this position, I worked on a Desert Restoration Corps crew with the Bureau of Land Management in southern California. Our
work focused on restoring desert tortoise habitat in the Mojave desert. The invasive grass, Schismus, was taking over fragmented and fragile desert ecosystem, threatening rare native plant species and providing continuous cover to allow the spread of wildfire.
After my time in California, I took another internship with the Nature Conservancy in Maryland, removing invasive plants alongside TNC staff in the Potomac Gorge. I enjoyed that experience so much that I decided to move to the DC metro region and continue
my work with invasive species. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I joined Arlington County in 2009 with an AmeriCorps position with the Four Mile Run Restoration crew, tackling invasive plants with herbicides and power tools. I stayed on with the County and now manage volunteer programs, contracted treatments,
and our National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Pulling Together Initiative grant to establish a Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM) in northern Virginia. Alex Sanders, one of the DC MAIPC representatives, is coordinating the effort
and working with public and private land managers in the region on collaborative projects.

<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I have only been a MAIPC state representative for two years, but have enjoyed the opportunity to participate in conference planning and learn from other land managers. I am excited about the possibility of creating small grants for high-priority
projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Thank you all for contributing to the listserv. I know it is a valuable resource for me and many others, particularly with the discussion of BMPs for treatment of particular species.<o:p></o:p></p>
