I think USDA is the appropriate agency to do this work, possibly BLM. If something can be done to ban the sale of Lesser Celandine by the nursery sector, please do it! It is banned in several states, including Maryland, but a national ban would be better.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt"><span style="background-color:rgba(255,255,255,0)"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt"><span style="background-color:rgba(255,255,255,0)">Lesser Celandine, which is a non-native, invasive species, does so much harm to the environment, becoming the only plant along flat areas next to aquatic habitat, that the environmental impact is critical to about ten percent of the environment across half of the United States. <u></u><u></u></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt"><span style="background-color:rgba(255,255,255,0)"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt"><span style="background-color:rgba(255,255,255,0)">For 12 years I have been pulling out the invasive, non-native garlic mustard weed along a stretch of the Potomac near my house in Brookmont (between C&O Canal Lock House 5 and the head of the whitewater feeder canal). Many native wild flowers are coming back, but Lesser Celandine is still the dominant species along the river. If it could be eliminated there would be an explosion of native species.
