<div>Hello all,
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">This is my semi-regular request for seed and/or leaf tissue samples of wavyleaf basket grass from across the known invasion range. At this time of year, I’m especially looking for ripe seed collections.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">We’ve developed a protocol that allows us to grow plants from seed in secured growth chambers, and have begun to examine germination and growth responses under varied environmental conditions. So far we have seeds collected from a small number
of populations, and now are looking to expand this.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">
<div class="">Tissue sampling is pretty straight forward, especially if the plants aren’t too wet. I can send a detailed protocol if requested. In brief,</div>
<div class="">
<ul class="x_MailOutline">
<li class="">Record collector and site information, including GPS coordinates</li><li class="">Collect at least 3-4 leaves (or entire stalks!) per plant into coin envelopes/regular envelopes/paper bags</li><li class="">Seeds can be pooled from several plants. If doing so, please indicate that the seeds are a population collection, rather than from a single plant.</li><li class="">If storing for an extended time, place filled envelopes in a plastic bag with a little silica drying gel (or the “Do Not Eat” packets)</li><li class="">When sampling for leaves from multiple plants per population, separate collections by at least 1 meter</li><li class="">Mail them to me!</li></ul>
</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
</div>
<div class="">Many thanks to those who have already sent me samples; these are archived on campus and my research team is making steady progress with genetic analyses.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">And of course, please share this request widely with colleagues who you think may also be able to help. I am happy to offset collection/shipping costs as needed.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Best,</div>
<div class="">Carrie<br class="">
