[MAIPC] Unknown shrub Kolkwitzia perhaps

I’ve never seen Kolkwitzia – but looking up images of the leaves I can’t see how to easily tell the difference between that and Philadelphus. There seem to be some subtleties about how acuminate the leaf tip is, but it doesn't seem obvious to me – the venation, teeth, and arrangement seem frustratingly similar.

I wonder if anyone has a good tip on how to use leaf or stem characters for those two look-alikes. The fruits/flowers on the other hand would be dead give aways.

I say it is closest to Kolkwitzia amabilis per Michael Dirr (although I have never seen it either). Looks like a Philadelphus in the first photo, but definitely not per the second photograph. It’s woody so I doubt it is a Persicaria.
