[MAIPC] Rationalizing Extinction

The recent bizarre opinion piece in the Washington Post ("We don't need to
save endangered species...") uses some techniques found in past books by
Marris, Pearce, Orion, etc. and a new and even more horrific book by Chris
D. Thomas.

I'm starting a list of the techniques used by these writers as they attempt
to create false controversy and upset the applecart of mainstream science.
>From Pyron's Washington Post opinion piece, I collected a list of nine faux
techniques as part of a response, entitled Rationalizing Extinction
<https://newscompanion.blogspot.com/2017/12/rationalizing-extinction.html>.

There's a string of posts I've written over the years critiquing false
narratives
<https://newscompanion.blogspot.com/search/label/Invasive%20Species> that
claim invasive species aren't a big problem after all, with a couple more
on the way--one on Emma Marris's 2016 TED talk, and another on Thomas's
counterfeit optimism in "Inheritors of the Earth: How Nature is Thriving in
an Age of Extinction."

We need to be countering these skewed books and the opeds and articles they
spawn. Even if you don't want to write extensively, you can still reach the
public in the book review sections of Amazon and Goodreads.
