[MAIPC] [INVASIVES] Spotted Lanternfly in Virginia

I gave the following presentation last Friday to a local conservation group: https://www.slideshare.net/rtgardner3/spotted-lanternfly-presentation .
This problem should have been handled when it was first noticed as now it will be moving across the continent in a way similar to the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug since both were found not far apart and share the same transportation network.
The BMSB share common feeding habits on the same foods - stylet injected into a fruit and juices sucked out.
Wikipedia says that Ailanthus is a vector for the BMSB. So it also shares that with the spotted lanternfly. It destroyed a huge percent of our vegetables last year, particularly pole beans.
As a bit of hope, the BMSB locally has gone from thousands in our home several years ago to perhaps a couple hundred. Other people locally have said the same.

The following is from a facebook post by VSU College of Agriculture:

ALERT: The spotted lanternfly Lycorma delicatula was detected in Frederick County, VA on January 10, 2018. Both numerous adults and egg mass were found. In addition, it was found at another site approximately 400 yards away. The owners of the site are cutting down and burning all Tree-of-Heaven on the site but it’s likely that it has spread from these sites. Since it is potentially a very serious pest of grapes, peaches, hops, and a variety of other crops it’s important to look for it and report any finds. A link has been set up for reporting, see: https://ask.extension.org/groups/1981/ask Virginia Cooperative Extension

There was also an article in the local newspaper http://www.nvdaily.com/news/local-news/2018/01/invasive-insect-arrives-in-winchester/
