The Fairfax County Park Authority, located in Northern Virginia outside Washington D.C., seeks an experienced ecologist to manage its countywide Inventory and Planning Program. The Inventory and Planning Program manager implements one of four program areas identified in the Park Authority's agency-wide Natural Resource Management Plan. We are seeking an ecologist with skills in ecological field data collection, biological inventory development, natural resources management plan development, and program administration to conduct these activities for resources on parkland totaling more than 20,000 acres and containing many rare species and habitat types. This position reports on natural resources inventories and develops management plans and strategies for protecting rare plants and animals on FCPA property. This position will work closely with stakeholders, advocacy groups, and regulatory agencies to meet program goals and develop MOUs with partner agencies to ensure program success. Candidates should have experience with plant/wildlife field data collection and the development and management of GIS geodatabases describing ecological data. Under direction, the position is expected to develop, manage, and serve as team leader for the Inventory and Planning program. The position will have both office and field responsibilities, and will supervise personnel. It will serve as principal contact/resource on questions, policies, and procedures relating to the program.
