The cow left the barn for these plants in PA long, long, long ago. The Appalachian Trail (AT) "north" of Hawk Mountain Road is a Japanese Barberry thicket. Today doing an obscure trail and the AT in a loop "south" of Rt. 183 there were numerous Japanese Barberry. Along the AT on Peter's Mountain, north of Harrisburg, there are acres of garlic mustard - one reasons I do not want to walk there. Japanese Stiltgrass is a very frequent hazard on trails - obscures the footing so people can twist/break ankles. Along Tulpehocken Creek near Bernville, Berks County, I doubt I can count the number of Callery Pear, let alone the number downstream in Blue Marsh, Berks County.
Good News - we have at least 5 American Chestnut burrs on a tree I rescued from BMECC trail maintainers! The P1 generation will hopefully become the F1 generation next spring. My goal is an F2 generation. "Miracles" happen when we put on the shoes and begin to walk. It leads us to question doctrine and dogma.

JP Barberry was added as a Class B noxious weed, but won’t be enforced for two years allowing the industry to liquidate existing stocks. Callery pear was tabled until more info could be obtained regarding implications for fruit growers who use Callery pear root stock for grafting purposes. JP Stiltgrass and garlic mustard were both added as Class B noxious weeds.

Hi All,
Can anyone share the outcomes of the Committee meeting last week? Were any decisions made about whether to add Japanese barberry or Callery pear as noxious weeds?
Thanks,
Clair
