remember - spotted lanternfly is officially present nearby - Prince William Forest Park in Prince William County
and in Frederick, Carroll, Howard, & Anne Arundel counties in Maryland. So it is coming to Fairfax (where I live) & Arlington. Still, you should report any detections to Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Faith

Hi Connie,
Arlington’s nature centers are spreading the word through our Facebook pages and we will also have some information up on the digital displays at the centers.
If anyone has a specimen, we can certainly display it at the centers with some informational signage. Thanks,

Just a thought!!!!!! What if one is pinned to a display board or in a jar (dead of course) and displayed at one of the nature centers for others to see and be on the lookout. Etc. I think you get what I'm trying to suggest.

We should kill them, and any egg masses. Reporting is also key.

Besides reporting them, if we find them, how should they be disposed of?

Jennifer Soles emailed the ARMN listserv a couple of weeks ago about reporting Spotted Lanternflies to the National Capital Prism Invader Detectives at: shorturl.at/nGRS9.
They’re here. We all need to be on the lookout for them and their egg masses, especially on Ailanthus trees and fruit trees.

I was in Philadelphia this weekend and the spotted lantern flies were everywhere. This is very sad. I suggested to Glenn that he contact MOM's to see if they can find a producer outside of where they are found.

So sad to hear, and shows how easy it is to move these invasives.

I was just cleaning up from dinner and could not have been more surprised to find a dead spotted lantern fly in our sink. The only thing I can imagine is that it came out of a head of leaf lettuce we washed tonight, which came from Lancaster, PA. We bought the lettuce at Mom’s market 2 days ago. Photo attached.
Has anyone else had this happen? Any idea what we should do next??
Glenn
