Hi Matt,

I went to the site today, Oct 5, 2021, and the GPS coordinates are Latitude
38.632 Longitude 77.106. Indian Head MD. So we can check out your suggestion
next season that the stilt grass just died earlier at this location then
nearby.

Hi Marc,

So, no stiltgrass grew this year at that spot? Or no active growth remains
at this spot? Based on my experience, this is the time of year stiltgrass
can begin to senesce and die rapidly (depending upon the location, rainfall,
abiotic factors, etc.). I have personally seen some spots that die-off
quicker than other more favorable spots in late summer/early fall, but it
appears to be abiotic. However, if this dieback occurred in early summer,
then that might be interesting. Could you send the GPS coordinates for this
location? We can scout it next season for any potential early season
dieback.

best,

Matt

Today at Ruth B. Swann Park in Charles County Maryland, I again came across
about a quarter acre that had only dead stilt grass from last year. The dead
stilt grass was very thick but there was no live stilt grass or any other
green vegetation.
