Works great on autumn olive as well – or any shallow root. Does not work for deep tap roots (e.g., Bradley pear).

I have the Pro XL Puller Bear and have used it to remove ~ 100 small diameter privets along the edge of a horse pasture. It worked great for that purpose. It is heavy (they have 3 different sizes and weights), made in Canada (not China!) and has its place in the invasive arsenal.

If you have single stems and can get the jaws set near the ground, the leverage it has easily pulls out the plant and some of the larger roots. I used it a few years ago and now I just deal with small regrowths instead of 8’ plants. Good alternative for non-herbicide use but it does disturb the soil.

I added an oaken plate at the base to increase the surface area of the part that touches the ground and receives all the pressure. Keeps the tool from sinking into very soft ground.

My bottom line is if you have lots of plants that you don’t want to cut stump or basal spray and don’t mind the weight and soil disturbance, it might be a tool for you. It will last several lifetimes as it is very well-made.

Looking for recommendations or comments on the utility of weed wrenches or similar. Wondered if it was a helpful mechanical option for privet, bush honeysuckle, or autumn olive.

Thanks.
